Traditional House, Tamil Nadu

This home was commissioned to revive a traditional Tamil residential vocabulary — pillared porticos, sloped clay-tile roofing, and a central courtyard — using contemporary construction methods for durability and comfort.

Every detail on the entrance portico, from the column proportions to the roof overhang, was drawn from regional heritage references and adapted to modern structural codes so the house reads as authentic rather than ornamental.

The result is a residence that feels rooted in place: cool, shaded verandahs, deep eaves against the monsoon, and a facade that ages gracefully with the local stone and lime-wash finish.
