With the survey grid established, the earthwork phase brought the uneven farmland to a consistent, buildable grade — cutting high ground and filling low pockets so water would drain away from planned structures rather than pool against them.
Compaction testing was carried out at intervals across the plot to make sure the filled ground could bear the loads planned for later civil structures, not just look level on the surface.
This phase is the least visible in a finished project but the one that determines how well everything built afterward holds up over time.
